Will the Euro to Dollar rate get stronger in 2024?

There has been no clear trend in the EUR to USD exchange rate so far in 2024. The rate has been confined to a very tight trading range. The difference between the high and low for 2024 has been only 3.5%.

Taking a longer-term perspective, we view the Euro as undervalued relative to the US Dollar. After hitting a decade-low in September 2022, the Euro has rebounded only modestly so far.

To give you some context, the US Dollar was dominant in 2022 as investors were concerned about global inflation. As the US Dollar is considered a safe-haven currency, it benefited from the flight to safety.

However, it’s not like the Euro is seen as a risky currency. It’s also considered one of the safest, most liquid currencies in the worl

STORY LINKEuro to Dollar Forecast: Diverging Rate Paths Tip EUR/USD Higher

The Euro to Dollar (EUR/USD) exchange rate surged to a five-week elevated above 1.1750 on Friday after US payrolls showed just 22,000 new jobs in August and June’s data turned negative for the first time in four years.

With markets now fully pricing a September Fed rate cut, and the ECB expected to hold steady, EUR/USD is testing the 1.17–1.18 resistance zone amid speculation the Euro rally could extend into year-end.

EUR/USD Forecasts: 5-Week Highs

The Euro to Dollar (EUR/USD) exchange rate edged towards 1.1700 ahead of Friday’s New York open and jumped to highs at 1.1750 after the latest US data before trading around 1.1730.

The dollar was undermined by another fragile headline non-farm payrolls report which included the first negative figure for over four years, although some of the other statistics was less damaging.

Markets examine a Fed rate cut is inevitable while the ECB is not expected to cut rates further.

According to Scotiabank; “Diverging rate policy between the ECB and Fed should constitut

Foreign exchange analysts at Berenberg see scope for the Euro to Dollar exchange rate (EUR/USD) to gain to 1.50 over the next five years, amid US fundamental vulnerabilities.

HSBC expects solid EUR/USD support on any short-term dips and has an end-2025 forecast of 1.20 but expects a limited retreat in 2026.

Berenberg expects structural factors, including the vast and sustained budget deficits, will undermine the US currency; “We expect the US dollar to continue to weaken in the medium term, similar to the period from 2003 to 2008, thereby normalising the overvaluation of the US dollar and US dollar-denominated assets in the coming years.”

It added, “However, the dollar is unlikely to stabilise near purchasing power parity after the correction of its overvaluation. It is much more likely that this trend will continue until the US dollar is significantly undervalued.”

The dollar posted strong gains after the Federal Reserve policy meeting. Although the decision to hold rates at 4.50% was in line with foreca

EUR/USD Price Forecast: Dollar Weakness Pushes Euro Toward 1.1800

EUR/USD Surges as Weak U.S. Jobs Data Forces Fed Rate Cut Bets

The EUR/USD pair advanced sharply, hitting 1.1714 during Friday’s New York session after the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report revealed only 22,000 jobs created versus expectations of 75,000. The unemployment rate ticked higher to 4.3%, while wage growth stayed steady at 0.3% month-on-month. That combination triggered an aggressive sell-off in the dollar, with the U.S. Dollar Index (DXY) sliding 0.70% to 97.57 and U.S. 2-year yields collapsing to 3.50%, the lowest in five months. Traders have now priced a 100% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the September 17 FOMC meeting and a 14% chance of a 50-basis-point cut, dramatically shifting sentiment in favor of the euro.

Political Pressures in Europe Complicate the Rally for EUR/USD

Even with dollar weakness driving momentum, the euro is facing its own headwinds from French political uncertainty. Elections looming in France have stirred volatility, with investors fearing policy paralysis or market disruptions depending on the outcome. Despite this, the euro gained ground after the Eu
