Matchroom Boxing: Boots & Bam

Two pound-for-pound superstars will light up Philadelphia on November 9 as hometown hero Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis headlines at Xfinity Mobile Arena once again, defending his IBF World Welterweight title against Karen Chukhadzhian and Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez defends his WBC and Ring Magazine World Super-Flyweight titles against Pedro Guevera, live worldwide on DAZN.

Ennis (32-0 29 KOs) thrilled his hometown crowd at Wells Fargo in July, forcing David Avanesyan to retire on his stool after five rounds to make the maiden defense of his IBF crown. ‘Boots’ boxed in his Philadelphia backyard for the first time since November 2018 on that night, and his city showed out, recording the highest attendance for a boxing event in Philadelphia for over 40 years.

The 27 year old has reiterated his desire to become undisputed at 147lbs, and to do so, must first see off his mandatory challenger in Chukhadzhian (24-2 13 KOs). The Ukrainian has already faced Boots in Washington in January 2023, but since that night has collected impressive wins over Pietro Rossetti (TKO 9, October, Munich) and Harry Scarff (UD, May, Hamburg) to la

Canelo Alvarez showed he had an ace up his sleeve by bringing in Jaron “Boots” Ennis into training camp to prepare for his superfight against Terence Crawford.

The switch-hitting Ennis has long been billed as a carbon copy of Crawford in terms of skillset, and the former Ring, WBA, and IBF champion is tasked by the Mexican superstar to mimic Bud before the real battle begins Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Netflix.

Robert Garcia, The Ring’s 2024 Trainer of the Year and coach to current stars like Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez and Vergil Ortiz Jr., says it was a stroke of genius for the undisputed super middleweight champion Alvarez to add Ennis to the team.

“I think that was a great move to bring Boots into camp,” Garcia told The Ring. “The choice means that Canelo wants to be in the best shape of his life. It's a big plus. I give Canelo an even bigger edge now because of the kind of training I am sure he's going through.

“Boots is the closest thing to Crawford when it comes to style and speed, all the way down to body size. Boots is perfect preparation for Canelo. That means Canelo is going to be ready and in top shape to do his job. That's a

JARON ‘BOOTS’ ENNIS PENS LONG-TERM MULTI-FIGHT EXTENSION WITH MATCHROOM

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis has signed a long-term multi-fight promotional extension with Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing.

The Philadelphia star first penned a deal with Hearn in April 2024, and returned home for the first time in almost six years three months later, defending his IBF Welterweight title for the first time at the Wells Fargo Center with a stoppage win over David Avanesyan, and then returned to the same spot to clinically outpoint mandatory challenger Karen Chukhadzhian in November.

Ennis (34-0 30 KOs) then unified the 147lb division with a stunning stoppage win over WBA ruler Eimantas Stanionis in Atlantic City in April, and now the 28 year old has decided to move to 154lbs and news of his first step on the path to becoming a two-weight World ruler will drop soon.

“Working with Eddie and Matchroom is just a great connection, I love how they’re willing to do whatever it takes to make me a superstar!” Said Ennis. “I’m ready to get going at 154lbs and I am hunting the big names and the belts; now it’s time to shut everybody up!”

“I’m delighted that Jaron has committed himself to Matchroom and DAZN

NEW YORK — The first day was a case of awful communication.

Apparently, Jaron “Boots” Ennis wasn’t willing to walk away from a second offer to brawl Vergil Ortiz. Eddie Hearn revealed to a group of reporters recently that Ennis accepted an offer to fight Ortiz on Aug. 16 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Ennis’ promoter didn’t specify when he'd agreed to oppose Ortiz in a 154-pound bout, but it didn’t matter because Hearn was informed the latter wouldn’t be ready to fight at that time. Ortiz is still waiting for his surgically repaired right hand to heal.

“We were asked if we would be interested in fighting Vergil Ortiz on August 16,” Hearn said. “Boots said yes, but Vergil’s not ready to fight in August. But that’s a great fight towards the end of the year.”

In 2024 Ennis was approached with a Feb. 22 date vs. Ortiz in Riyadh. Although it sounded enticing, Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs, 1 NC) believed he had unfinished business at 147 pounds.

Ennis wanted to become the second fully unified 147-pound champ of the four-belt era. He announced Wednesday on X that he will provide up The Ring, IBF and WBA welterweight titles to challenge at junior middleweight.

Before he made that decision,

Jaron Ennis Hints At His Next Fight

Jaron Ennis‘ next fight could soon follow after his win over David Avanesyan.

Reports indicate he could box Karen Chukhadzhianin Philadelphia on November 9, while Jesse Rodriguez vs. Pedro Guevara could also feature. Boots wanted a unification bout with the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, offered a reported $1.7 million. However, Norman’s side allegedly wanted $2.2 million as talks broke down. The IBF also ordered Boots to box Karen Chukhadzhian. Ennis already beat him last year.

Matchroom ended up losing the purse bids by $250,000. Ennis now has to decide if he wants to box at 147 and chase undisputed or move up to 154. A fight at 154 is risky since Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Tim Tszyu are no pushover bouts. Meanwhile, a fight with Crawford is unlikely since Ennis has no belts. Either way, Ennis’ future will become clear.

“Bam will fight in the U.S. next. We’re planning a really big show for November in the US. It could be on the East Coast. We want to continue the success that we’ve had (with Boots) in Philadelphia. We’re speaking to K
