“For us, it’s not about getting a return on investment,” said NAEC CEO Mel Coleman. “We want our co-op members to experience the improved quality of life that fiber internet brings. True broadband access helps our students, businesses and communities thrive in today’s competitive world, and we want to be our co-op members’ local source for reliable, affordable internet, TV and phone service."

Several customers of NEXT, powered by NAEC, have been experiencing an outage to their television service. North Arkansas Electric Cooperative Chief Executive Officer Mel Coleman says the company’s TV provider was the apparent victim of a cyber attack.

Coleman says one of the first things he wants to emphasize is that NEXT itself was not hacked, and the internet service should still be working.

NEXT is not the only service affected by the provider’s attack. Coleman says nearly 25,000 customers throughout Arkansas and a portion of Oklahoma residents are without their service as well.

Coleman tells KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News NEXT has the ability to provide a solution, although it most likely won’t be immediate.

For NEXT, the cyber attack on the TV provider isn’t the only problem. Coleman says the provider has provided no information or incorrect information since the incident occurred.

Coleman adds NEXT’s TV customers will not be billed for this outage.
